It has been revealed that Qualcomm is planning to officially announce a new chip built for VR and AR headsets at next week’s Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, US. Snapdragon XR1 will reportedly include a graphics processor, security functions and AI technology alongside its main processing unit. It is also said that it will allow users to interact with headsets via voice control and head tracking.
Sources familiar with the development of the new chip say that it has been designed to enable headset manufacturers to build more powerful, more affordable and more power-efficient standalone VR and AR headsets.
We have it on very good authority that powerpoints about this chip are already out to some, but under NDA, so if we told you, we’d have to kill you. 😉 We plan to be at this event and hope to get more information then (BR)
