NDS is a long term supplier of software for airports and flight information displays (FIDs) and told us at the show that its PADS4 software now supports NEC displays fitted with the Raspberry Pi Compute module. It doesn’t need the special NEC version, but can use the standard device. It has also developed its support for Tizen (Samsung) and LG’s WebOS. The company told us that it is getting good feedback on its platform which can allow dynamic display arrangements. For example, at the end of the day, as the number of flights on a display reduces, the balance of the display can be used for advertising or wayfinding or queue management. It also has a simple ’emergency’ mode that allows a quick switch of all displays to specific emergency messages.
Just by coincidence (or maybe not), the BBC ran an interesting video that shows a Dutch idea that airports should have circular runways. It seems a very good idea to us!
