What They Say
We didn’t cover the new Facebook glasses a couple of weeks ago as they don’t have any displays and they were very widely covered. However, were interested to spot that Facebook is developing its Project Area programme in Singapore where it has users using glasses to collect pictorial information on the city. The users are required to wear a lanyard and special clothing that identifies them as Facebook researchers, but the glasses themselves don’t bear any clearly visible branding according to The Information.
The aim is said to be to create a continuously updated 3D map of the world.
What We Think
Well, I wouldn’t want to be without Google Maps (or Open Street Maps) any more. A 3D version of the world would be useful and clearly essential if Facebook wants to build a metaverse that combines the real world with the virtual. (BR)
