Processing Raises Philips Monitor to 12-bit

Seeking to cater to professional users, Philips/MMD’s new 27″ monitor (272P4APJKEB) is a 27″ unit with 12-bit colour, an IPS panel and high resolution.

‘PerfectKolor’ is Philips’s name for factory-calibrated colour; this applies to both sRGB (100% coverage) and Adobe RGB (99% coverage) colour gamuts. A six-axis colour adjustment system is built in. In addition, colour uniformity is achieved through the ‘SmartUniformity’ function – said to achieve luminance uniformity of 95%.

While the AHVA (IPS) panel has a 10-bit native colour depth, Philips writes that its internal processing is capable of 12-bit output. Resolution is 2560 x 1440. Contrast ratio is 1,000:1, with a 12ms response time and 178° viewing angles. The display is flicker-free, thanks to DC modulation. Brightness reaches 350 cd/m².

DisplayPort, HDMI (x2), dual-link DVI and USB 3.0 (x3) inputs are featured. Two 2W speakers and a web-cam are also built into the monitor. An ergonomic stand enables -5° – 20° tilt; 130° swivel; 90° pivot; and 150mm height adjustment.

Philips is selling the 272P4APJKEB now, for $900.
