Virtual reality company, Pimax. has unveiled two VR headsets. The premier Crystal Super model introduces an interesting and maybe industry first, feature — a replaceable optical engine that allows users to switch between QLED and MicroLED panels. Priced at $1,799 and slated for shipment in the fourth quarter, the Crystal Super offers a claimed 29.5 million pixels, an expansive field of view (FOV), and increased pixels per degree (PPD).
In addition to the high-end Crystal Super, Pimax also presented the Crystal Light, a more economical option available for $699. While retaining the same 16.6 million pixel count as the original Crystal headset from the company, which should have had similar specs to the Crystal Light but didn’t turn out that way, it reduces weight by 30% and cost by omitting less essential features, making it accessible to a broader audience. This model is currently available for pre-order and expected to ship in May. Pimax has also added a new 60G Airlink module, priced at $299, which leverages WiGig technology to provide a high-bandwidth, wireless PCVR experience, more powerful than traditional WiFi capabilities.
