Philips Combines Three Devices in One

Philips announced a small ‘3-in-1’ TV back in February and is now preparing to launch the set in Europe. Known as the PFS5231, it can serve as a TV, a computer monitor and a Bluetooth speaker.

The screen itself is relatively small for a TV (although a very standard size for a monitor), at 24″. It is designed to be used as a second set in a bedroom or kitchen. The separate 16W speaker doubles as the TV stand, and can connect to other Bluetooth devices such as smartphones.

HEVC decoding capability is built in to the set. It also contains DVB-T/T2/C/S/S2 tuners. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 and brightness is 250 cd/m². HDMI (x2), Scart, USB and CI+ ports are featured.

Philips will launch the PFS5231 in September, for €240 ex VAT.

Analyst Comment

I recently bought a small audio system and a TV. The audio system supports bluetooth streaming, which is great for guests. However, I was amazed to find, when installing it, that it wouldn’t connect to the TV as it didn’t have an ‘aux’ input. It seemed so standard to me that I hadn’t bothered to check. It illustrates the importance of wireless streaming, these days. (BR)
