What They Say
Philips (MMD) has a new 49″ curved VA-based monitor aimed at gamers, the 498P9Z that has 5120 x 1440 resolution and 1800R radius. Refresh is up to 165Hz, and the monitor is certified to DisplayHDR 400, although maximum luminance is 550 cd/m². Colour coverage is 122% sRGB, 91% DCI-P3, 89% AdobeRGB and it has a Delta-E value of less than 2 with native contrast of 3,000:1. Features include a PBP mode and an integrated KVM. There are three HDMI 2.0 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.4
What We Think
The maximum luminance shows the downside of certification. This monitor would meet the WCG requirement for the DisplayHDR 600 label, but doesn’t quite get there for brightness. There must be some frustrated product managers at TPV and some backlight engineers under pressure! (BR)
