Mediapro’s Overon used V-Nova’s Perseus compression codec for an UltraHD broadcast of a football match (‘El Clásico’) between Real Madrid and Barcelona, in Spain, on the 21st November. Live footage was encoded at the stadium by V-Nova’s P.Link solution, contributing ‘visually lossless’ content with latency of 240ms, over a 1Gbps fibre connection to the Movistar Master Control Room in Madrid. Here, a P.Link server decoded the signal, which was then distributed to Canal+’s Liga viewers in Spain. Perseus was chosen for the work as it is ‘the only commercially available video compression solution that can contribute multiple visually lossless video feeds over our 1 Gbps telco circuits’, said Overon.
