Witsview of Taiwan has estimated that 14.43 million notebook display panels were shipped in August, up 21% from July. However, Q3 sales will be just 41.74 million units, down 4% from 43.43 million last year. 17% of this year’s shipments will have wide viewing angles, with even Chinese makers such as BOE increasing its share of wide view to 10%. The demand for convertibles, which is still growing, is expected to lead to an increasing share for wide viewing angle panels. However, Witsview said that Taiwanese makers are still concentrating on TN, so have just 5% of the wide viewing angle market.
FullHD and above resolutions are forecast to grow from 14% in 2014 to 20% in 2015 and 30% by 2016.
