Sources in Asia claim that JOLED (JDI + Sony + Panasonic) Display Monitor Vol 21 No 30) is to begin trial production of 10″ and 12″ OLED panels by 2016, in addition to the 13.3″ units already announced. Mass production would take place in 2018. Apple, apparently, will be the main purchaser of these panels.
There is an oversupply of LTPS LCD panels in the market, say sources in the Asian supply chain. The sources, quoting unnamed analysts, say that it may take two or three years before the technology is price-competitive and offers high resolution advantages compared to a-Si.
Sharp has raised the proportion of small- and medium-size panels being produced at its Kameyama fab to 50% of the total. The move was taken to meet demand from Chinese vendors, according to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.
