The Nexus 9 tablet will be built by HTC, Nvidia has accidentally revealed. HTC’s involvement was rumoured earlier this year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 26). A paper filed with the US International Trade Commission says that the phone will be released in Q3’14 and is expected to use a Tegra K1 chip.
According to the the Daily Dot, Apple will unveil the second-generation iPad Air on 21st October. ‘Sources familiar with the matter’ also claim that a refreshed iPad Mini will be introduced on the same day. Both, apparently, will feature Apple’s TouchID fingerprint sensor and anti-reflective screens.
We have followed haptic feedback company Senseg since 2011 (Display Monitor Vol 18 No 50), and the company has now released its first developer kit. The Senseg Feelscreen kit is a 7″ Nexus 7 tablet using the company’s haptic technology.
Tesco’s Hudl tablet was wildly popular last year, but the company has cancelled plans for a 4G smartphone under the same brand. Since the phone, apparently capable of challenging the Galaxy S5, was first discussed earlier this year, the market has become more competitive. The ZMax phablet, from ZTE, is a mid-range device with a 5.7″ display (1280 x 720) and 3,400mAh battery – lasting for two days on average, the company claims. Android 4.4 runs on a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC. It will be available in late September for $250 over a two-year contract.
