Optoma Goes Laser Phosphor

Optoma’s ZU650 is its first projector using laser phosphor technology. The DLP projector, part of the ProScene range, is suitable for 24/7 use and is filter-free. The light source will last for 20,000 hours.

The ZU650 is designed for large venues such as meeting rooms, auditoriums and museums. It can be installed in 360°. The projector features edge-blending, brightness-and colour-matching functionality. Optoma says that it is so confident that colour quality will not degrade that it is offering a five year guarantee to that effect.

As with other solid-state projectors, the ZU650 features fast start-up and shut-down times.

Owners have five different lens options available (lenses are not supplied with the projector). They feature optical zooms from 1.26x to 1.9x and throw ratios from 0.75-0.95:1 to 2.9-5.5:1. Throw distance is between 0.8-6.1m and 3.1-35.5m. Image size is 50″ – 300″.

Display resolution is 1920 x 1200 and brightness is 5,500 lumens. ANSI contrast is 250:1. HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, component, VGA-out, USB, RJ45 (compatible with HDBaseT) and RS232 ports are featured.

The ZU650 measures 484 x 509 x 185mm and weighs 18kg. It is available now for £8,000 ($11,445) (white) or £7,840 ($) (black), ex VAT.
