Opera Adds 360° VR Video Playback Support

Opera has integrated support for up to 360° video playback for OpenVR-compatible headsets such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in the latest version of its developer browser.

The move creates a unique opportunity for headset users to enjoy video content in VR using a simple browser.

A lot of video streaming platforms now support such content, such as YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo, including full 360° video for the ultimate immersive experience, Opera said.

The new version of Opera can automatically detect any headset compatible with OpenVR and will transmit spherical video to the device with the click of a button. The company has also stated that it plans to fully implement WebVR support in future versions of the Opera browser.
