Only 3% of MENA TV Channels are HD

A report from Noorsat on TV viewing in MENA, indicates that although 80% of viewers in the region are already equipped to receive HD TV, the region is lagging behind the rest of the world. There are 1,500 TV channels broadcast in the region, but less than 3% are doing so in HD as many broadcasters are put off by the cost of investing in more capacity.

Noorsat mainly supplies leased capacity from the Nilesat/Eutelsat joint-positions of 7/8° West as well as Arabsat’s Badr fleet at 25.5° East.

At the recent CabSat show in Dubai, Noorsat was in discussions with potential clients looking to make the switch to HD. Noorsat, which is based in Bahrain and Jordan, says it is now carrying more than 350 TV and radio channels.
