At Facebook’s recent F8 conference, Oculus revealed its new prototype, “Half Dome”, a new headset similar to the Rift, with a 140° FOV and varifocal displays. The new device features Fresnel lenses, eye-tracking technology and a display actuation system which mechanically moves the lenses closer to and further away from the user’s eyes to enable the sharp view of objects at all distances, with a focus on improving the clarity of near-field objects. The company also said that the mechanics of the device have been designed to operate silently.
The prototypes show the placing of devices for gaze recognition. Two different lens designs were shown.
