Occipital, a start-up based in Colorado, has revealed a new type of inside-out tracking for VR that it is calling Occipital Tracking.
Designed to replace external room-sensing hardware, Occipital Tracking uses 3D scanning and depth-sensing cameras to show real-life obstacles, such as walls, or an obstacle in the room like a table, overlaid against the virtual environment.
The company showcased the new technology at CES 2018 last week.
