What They Say
Nreal, which last week raised $100 million (Links Week Ending 24th September 2021), has announced its new iOS and (most) Android device compatible Air glasses. The glasses are a development of the ‘Light’ headsets from last year but are said to be ‘a fraction of the price’. The Light glasses were launched at $600. The new glasses use microOLEDs but do not have any outward-facing cameras so have no ‘spatial awareness or hand tracking as the Light version did. The glasses are controlled by the connected device. They weigh just 77gms (down from 106 gms)
The refresh rate has been boosted to 90Hz and the FoV is 46° (down from 52°) at 49ppd.
They will be available in December in Japan, China and South Korea.
What We Think
I was surprised to see no ‘spatial awareness’, but the firm said that in Korea, 78% of users only used them for watching streaming media. (BR)
