Notebook ODMs Post Mixed Results in May

Taiwan’s major ODM notebook manufacturers posted mixed results in May. Compal reported a 4.7% month on month increase in sales to NT$64.5 billion ($2.1 billion), though this was down 5% year on year. Year to date sales reached NT$324.5 billion ($10.5 billion), which was 9.7% up on the same period of last year. Compal shipped 3.1 million notebooks in May, an increase from the 2.6 million shipped in April.

Inventec saw sales fall both sequentially and YoY, down 8.3% from April and 18.1% from May 2014 to NT$28.4 billion ($917.4 million). The company’s sales for the first five months of the year also declined, falling 20.4% YoY to NT$148.8 billion ($4.8 billion). Inventec shipped 1.3 million notebooks in May, up from 1.2 million units in April.

Quanta Computer‘s sales increased 14.1% from the previous month and 9.9% from a year earlier, to NT$77 billion ($2.5 billion), taking sales for the year so far to NT$349.7 billion ($11.3 billion), down 2.4% YoY. Quanta’s notebook shipments also improved in May, rising 6.2% to 3.4 million units.

Pegatron reported a 9.6% drop in sales from April to May to NT$70.6 billion ($2.3 billion), though this was 7.1% higher year on year. The company’s sales for the January to May period increased 7.3% from a year earlier to NT$422.6 billion ($13.6 billion).
