Nook Makes eReader Waterproof

Rather than simply re-releasing a Samsung tablet as a faux eReader, Barnes & Noble has launched its first real Kindle competitor this year. The Nook Glowlight Plus is a revamped version of the Nook Glowlight (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 42), featuring a front light and an IP67 rating, making it water- and dust-proof.

The Glowlight Plus features the Nook line’s highest-resolution display to date: 300dpi on a 6″ E Ink screen. The aluminium body houses a battery that will power the device for up to six weeks.

Barnes & Noble is selling the eReader now for $130: $10 more than Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite, although that does not have a metal body or waterproofing.
