Nintendo Abandons European TV Plans

Nintendo has changed its plans for the Tvii platform (Display Monitor Vol 19 No 38). Available in the USA and Japan since 2012, the service is no longer destined for a European launch, ‘Due to the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems’.

Analyst Comment

This has long been a problem for companies attempting to enter the European TV market; although it looks cohesive from the outside, Europe is still formed of multiple countries with different laws, technologies and TV platforms. (TA)
