Nintendo Announces “Labo”, Cardboard Peripherals Coming to Switch

Nintendo has announced Labo, an upcoming set of peripheral and software packages for the Nintendo Switch. Labo, due for release in April, are kits made up of cardboard “Toy-Cons” and corresponding software that makes use of the Switch controllers’ built-in IR sensors and motors.

The Variety Kit comes with a cardboard fishing rod, a piano, and a remote-controlled car, amongst other things, which must be assembled by the user, while the Robot Kit comes with a cardboard backpack and software featuring a virtual reality robot which detects the user’s body movements. Some of the games involve placing the detachable screen of the Switch console into the cardboard peripherals.

It was revealed recently that the Nintendo Switch has already outsold its predecessor, the Wii U, in less than a year on sale. (Nintendo Switch Has Already Outsold the Wii U)
