Japan has announced updates to its UltraHD plans at MIPTV in France. National broadcaster NHK intends to begin transmissions on the 1st August this year in Super-Hi Vision, aka 8k. A new body, a combination of the various UltraHD promotional groups called the Association for Promotion of Advanced Broadcasting Services (A-PAB), will handle UltraHD broadcasts. These will begin soon after NHK’s 8k programming.
It is important to note that – confusingly – NHK will no longer distinguish between UltraHD and 8k, simply referring to them both as Super-Hi Vision.
