NEC Display Solutions in the US has added more warranty to four of its large format displays. The P404, P484, P554 and P703 will now carry a five-year guarantee. Most professional signage displays from the company and others are only covered for three years.
Analyst Comment
My own view is that it is hard to show that extending warranties beyond around three years has any real impact on sales. It probably doesn’t cost much (unless you have the kind of disaster that Sanyo had with PDPs in the early years) to extend the warranty, but when we did a lot of research on warranty some years ago, we had trouble finding anyone that had extended warranties that far that saw a boost in sales.
