Nanosys xQDEF Gets to MP

What They Say

We reported on the Nanosys development of diffuser plates with integrated QDs (xQDEF), replacing the separate components used in QDEF architecture TV sets and monitors up to now. (Nanosys, QDs and Vacuums) Now Nanosys has said that it has gone into mass production through Nangtong Changed New Material Co., Ltd. known as CYD and the production plates have been adopted by Hisense, Skyworth and TCL. The key point that Nanosys emphasised is that this extends QD technology to TVs and monitors in the sub-$500 market and below $400, where 75% of TVs are sold, globally.

The move increases the Total Addressable Market for QD by a factor of 5X, the firm said.

CYD has nine production lines and was established in 2016. It has nine production lines and plans 12 more lines (to be installed ‘soon’).

What We Think

As I have mentioned several times, Steve Baker of NPD made the point at SID that ‘the US premium TV market starts at $700 now’. I think this innovation is a key one in continuing the performance enhancement of LCD TVs and monitors. (BR)
