Valve’s Head of Business Development, Jan-Peter Ewert, revealed at last weeks’ White Nights St. Petersburg 2018 conference that Steam’s monthly active users with a VR headset have grown 160% year-on-year. Ewert didn’t provide a number to signify exactly how many users that equates to, but also said that the platform’s daily active users increased to 43 million in 2017, up from 25 million at the same point the previous year.
Road to VR crunched some numbers and figured out a rough estimate of Steam’s monthly active users with connected VR hardware.
Based on an informed estimation that the platform sees some 87.3 million monthly active users — and Steam’s own data, revealing that 0.7% of all users have a connected VR headset — the website predicts that 611,100 VR headsets were connected to Steam in June 2018.
