What They Say
In digging around to follow up a brief article in the Elec about large panel pricing, based on data from Witsview, I found an interesting article from a couple of weeks ago that highlighted that in the monitor market, rising panel prices have squeezed margins for set makers and the article highlighted that in the volume commodity 21.5″ TN monitor market, panel prices are as much as 60% of monitor cost in June 2021, up from 50% as recently as January. That contrasts with higher specification monitors where the panel may drop to as low as 30% in the most premium segments.
On average, panel prices are getting to 50% to 55% of monitor cost, which is around breakeven.
What We Think
Monitor makers would like to be able to increase prices, but there is bound to be some impact on sales. We’ve already seen some signs of pressure on volumes, with Asus in Germany having a discount promotion on monitors. (BR)
