What They Say
AR contact lens developer, Mojo Vision, has demonstrated its contact lens in use and the firm’s CEO is reported to have worn the device for around an hour. This is said to have been one of the first actual tests of a device.
The wearer said it felt ‘very similar to a normal contact lens’. It is said not to have hurt or raised the temperature of his eye.
What We Think
This company is putting a very good story together, and is presenting it very professionally and carefully, but is a bit coy with some of the details. If its microLEDs can do what they say, the results are extremely impressive, but details are a bit vague of how they are doing what they claim. SVP and GM for displays is Nikhil Balram, a long-standing and respected display specialist (he led the display group at Google among other things), so from me they have the benefit of the doubt.
The challenge for the firm will be to get clearance for the device, which is classified as a medical device. This depends on government approval and it’s hard to forecast when that might be obtained and with such a new category of product even whether it will be. I can’t see why it wouldn’t, but I’m no eye biologist! (BR)
