What They Say
Mirada has said that it is working with a Mexican TV service operator, Izzi, to roll out a version of its Iris front end for Android TV that will work on Android TV hybrid STBs. The existing Iris solution has worked on Linux set-top boxes, smartphones, tablets and laptops, so the move brings a consistent user experience. This is said to be the first ever launch of Android TV for an operator which uses hybrid DVB/OTT set-top boxes to provide a TV service at scale through its cable infrastructure.
What We Think
On the one hand, Android TV brings lots of advantages and features to TV, but using the Google standard front end is a no-no for many operators. Bringing a consistent front end to the platform along with the hybrid of broadcast with OTT content will be attractive to operators. (BR)
