Microsoft plans to develop a consumer HoloLens AR headset

What They Say

In an interview with the WSJ at at a WSJ event, Alex Kipman, described as a co-creator of the Microsoft Hololens headset said that to be a consumer product the current concept must be brought down to 90 gms, rather than the 500g+ of the current device but maintain the same level of immersion.

“So, we are absolutely working on a consumer journey for HoloLens, I’m happy to confirm that and say that it’s a very important part of our strategy.”

Kipman said.

He also confirmed that there is a Hololens 3 on the way, but that it would be a “leap” rather than a small step up in technology. He also said that a lot more work needs to be done to create devices that would be acceptable to consumers.

What We Think

What Kipman didn’t give was any sense of the time needed to get the weight down by 80%! (BR)
