Micledi Microdisplays of Leuven in Belgium said that it has done a deal with GlobalFoundries (GF) for the chipmaker to integrate the Micledi microLED arrays with the GF 22FDX platform. The GF chips will provide image processing, driver and control functions using wafer-to-wafer hybrid bonding.
The company will develop the combined devices for AR glasses applications.
What We Think
This is a big deal for Micledi which would need a partner for the chipmaking. For those that are not close to the display industry, there is often a lack of understanding of the critical need for novel displays if they cannot piggyback directly onto the driving technology of an existing display technology.
