An article from Nikkei has lent credence to the predictions by various analysts over the past few weeks, that Apple will launch a lower-priced LCD version of the iPhone X next year. (Another Analyst Predicts All-Screen LCD iPhone for 2018)
Nikkei’s anonymous source claims that the 6.1″ LCD device will also feature a metal-backed casing, possibly from current iPad casing supplier, Casetek. An additional source confirmed to Nikkei that Casetek is indeed experimenting with options for the smartphone.
Nikkei concludes its article by pointing out that if these casing rumours are true, a new metal-backed LCD iPhone wouldn’t just be a step backwards in terms of its display—wireless charging would also be off the table.
