What They Say
Meta appears to have made a couple of changes to its device plans, with the Portal video conferencing product moving from the consumer to be developed for the B2B market. The firm is reported to have shipped 800K units last year, but had not had the success that it has had with its Echo devices.
The firm is also reported to have decided to drop its plans to bring the ‘Project Nazare’ AR glasses to market, instead aiming to get them to developers to build apps for the next generation of devices. The glasses were set to be released in 2024.
To add to these changes, Meta is said to have cancelled plans for a ‘Milan’ smartwatch that is said to have included two cameras and a detachable display. The Verge reports that the watch was expected to have a camera in the display for video calling and a higher resolution on the back that could be used when the watch was removed from the strap. However, the camera is reported to have impacted plans to use the back of the watch as a sensor to allow wrist control of AR functions.
