Meta Teases Progress on Clearer VR Vision

What They Say

In the recent SID Display Week Keynote, Meta gave some information on the use of stacked LC lenses to allow variable focus in XR headsets. RoadtoVR summarised a paper given at Display Week that covered the topic and explained the technology. The researchers found that the technique causes a drop off in quality beyond about 30° field of view. However, the paper concludes,

“the user wearing HMDs is expected to move their head to view images more than 25 degrees off axis. Therefore, the degradation of the image quality will only be in large FOV angles where the retina has lowered resolution and may be unnoticeable.”

What We Think

In its Business Conference talk, Flexenable talked up the use of its OTFT technology in this kind of application. (BR)
