What They Say
Samsung introduced the Galaxy Chromebook 2, claimed to be the world’s first QLED Chromebook. There are two configurations, based on the CPU and the display is a 13.3″ FullHD LCD with 565 cd/m² of output and 158% coverage of sRGB and 100% of DCI-P3.
The $549.99 base model includes an Intel Celeron 5205U, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. The $699.99 configuration has an Intel Core i3-10110U, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Both models get two USB-C ports, a microSD slot, and a headphone / microphone combo jack, as well as a 720p webcam.
What We Think
It’s interesting that Samsung has dropped the UltraHD OLED that was in the first Chromebook. That display looked fantastic, but the device was criticised for a short battery life. Dropping down to QLED at FullHD should give plenty of performance. A 4K OLED was probably overkill for a Chromebook, anyway. Somebody paying for that level of display might have preferred a full featured PC. Having said that, I bought an Asus Chromebook for an elderly relative recently and was very impressed with the performance and value for money. It’s ideal for Zoom, email and Facebook. (BR)
