MediaTek saw a drop in its consolidated revenues to NT$18.31 billion (US$588.3 million) in January 2017. This represents a 11-month low and a decrease of 14.2% on month and 14.1% on year.
Blamed for this drop are seasonal factors, as well as the strong US dollar. These factors will drag down MediaTek’s revenues in the first quarter, according to company vice chairman Ching-jiang Hsieh. MediaTek expects to post a revenue decline of 14-22% to between NT$53.6 billion and NT$59.1 billion in the first quarter of 2017. Shipments of its SoCs used for smartphones and tablets will fall to a combined 105-115 million units.
