zte axon luxApple has introduced a new iPod Touch with a 4″ Retina (1136 x 640) display. It’s based on an A8 64 bit chip (said to be six times faster) and also includes a GPU and an M8 motion coprocessor. It has an 8MP camera and can support some fitness/activity tracking.

Osram has launched new Compact CL and Compact CM LEDs that are optimised for automotive applications. The Compact CL is said to be ideal for HUD applications.

There are rumours from Germany that Sony will launch two new Xperia phones, the S60 and S70, at the forthcoming IFA show, while other reports point to a launch in August.

ZTE announced the new Blade D6 smartphone and a new home gateway, the ZTE SmartHome, at the MWC Shanghai. The D6 uses a 5″ 1280 x 720 display and is based on an MTK6735 with Android. A unique feature to the ZTE Blade D6 is its ‘3 in 2’ tray holder that can accommodate a micro SIM, as well as either an additional nano SIM or a micro SD card, all in the same tray holder. Separately, the company announced the 5.5″ Axon Lux handset which supports 2560 x 1440 resolution (534 ppi) and is an IPS LCD. The processor is a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 and it has 4GB of RAM, 128GB of flash. UltraHD playback is supported at up to 30fps. Pricing is competitive at $450.
