As part of our coverage of AR & VR over the years, we have reported on Matterport, a developer of digital twins of properties, since 2015, although we haven’t reported on the firm for a while. (VR Getting Ready for Prime Time) However, I spotted that the firm put out its results for the Q4 and the last year and what was a start-up has now got to revenues of $66 million with 500,000 subscribers.
The firm builds dimensionally accurate models of real spaces. It has released some of its data to universities which are building information and services on top of that data.
Matterport recently acquired Enview, which has technology for real world capture of spaces and objects.
What We Think
Matterport is, arguably, one of the relative pioneers of the Metaverse, which should position it to get some advantages from the development of the Metaverse. (BR)
