What They Say
The Information ($$) has backed up previous Bloomberg reports that Apple’s planned VR headset, code-named N301, would have dual ‘8K’ displays with eye tracking and Lidar as well as many as 12 cameras. The plan would be to sell 250,000 units in the first year and is expected to cost $3,000.
Separately, Magic Leap’s next headset is due in late 2021 according to VR Final and will be “50% smaller, 20% lighter, with 100% larger field of view” than the Leap One.
What We Think
The Apple headset is going to need to be very impressive to achieve such a high level of sales at that price. However, Apple has a great track record in recent years of setting out its stall by, effectively, saying. “To do it properly, this is what it costs” and it has succeeded. (BR)
