Magic Leap Expects ML2 Next Year

What They Say

Magic Leap CEO, Peggy Johnson, spoke to Bloomberg Technology in a 6 minute video and said that its next headset will be available in the middle of 2022. It will be intended for the enterprise market. She said that one of the applications that it is working on is the use of the glasses to perform eye tests with a partner, Heru. The field of view of the new glasses is said to be doubled and to allow it to be lower in the visual field, which may be helpful in surgery. It also has a new dimming system to match the output better to surgical environments.

Four companies in the health care market are testing ML2 devices.

Johnson said that eventually the firm would probably come back to the consumer market.

What We Think

At least the firm’s demoes are a bit more credible these days!

I used a smartphone-based app to get a prescription for my last couple of pairs of glasses and it worked well and using that and a mail order spectacle maker from Germany was much cheaper than going for a check and buying from a retail outlet. Of course, those that do the tests would say that they are checking much more than acuity, astigmatism and IPD. (BR)
