Magic Leap 2 is the best AR headset

What They Say

Magic Leap has taken a fair amount of criticism in recent years largely because it ‘over-promised’ and rais nearly $2 billion to build AR headsets. However a review by Engadget was more sympathetic. An article discusses that the firm increased the FoV of the Magic Leap 1 from around 50° to around 70° mainly vertically that the reviewer describes as ‘like standing in a doorway’ and he found it ‘almost aggressively immersive’. The weight of ML2 dropped by 20%, the volume by 50% and the firm is targeting another 50% drop in volume and an increase in FoV in the next generation ML3.

One of the features of the ML2 is a dimmer screen to block the view at times. The reviewer liked it, but comparing the experience to using the Quest Pro, he said:

“Somewhere between these two headsets is the ideal balance between the immersion of VR, and the real world integration of AR”.

What We Think

If you want to dig into the ML2, Karl Guttag’s page is the place, I think. On his YouTube video he has an intriguing diagram of all the different layers in the ML2 optical stack. (BR)
