Madison Square Garden Company Building LED Sphere Venue in Las Vegas

The Madison Square Garden Company is developing MSG Sphere Las Vegas, an 18,000-seat venue to be built on the Las Vegas Strip, inside a 15,800m² LED sphere, complete with audio, sensory and haptic feedback technology. While the sphere’s interior will be wrapped in a giant LED screen, its exterior will also act as a display so, from the outside, it can be turned into a spherical object such as a giant tennis ball, themed around the event taking place within.

The company plans to host a variety of events and experiences, including e-sports tournaments, concerts, product launches, trade shows, educational demonstrations, sporting events and VR experiences.

The venue will stimulate its visitors’ senses via a range of technology including a vibrating floor platform, temperature control and a scent release system. The venue is a collaboration between Madison Square Garden Company and Las Vegas Sands, and is scheduled to open by 2020.

The use of LEDs to colour buildings can be impressive – certainly I have been impressed by seeing the Allianz Arena in Munich at night. (BR)
