What They Say
Macroblock said at Touch Taiwan that it was highlighting its drivers for miniLED backlights. The 65″ TV that the firm showed had 1,152 dimming zones and can reach the 1,000 cd/m² requirement for DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The backlight boards were developed by A2V team and is said to feature ‘Array Plus and Pixel Compensation Tech’ that is claimed to reduce the haloing effect from the LEDs.
The firm introduced four different driver ICs for different screen sizes. The chips also support Black Frame Insertion (BFI) for better motion images. The company is focusing on reducing the number of chips needed )by a factor of four) and also supporting the higher frame rates up to 120Hz that is now being requested.
What We Think
Separately, the firm said at the event that it is around 20% short in supply at the moment. It will release fine pitch (0.75mm, 0.9375mm and 1.25mm) drivers in June 2021 and will ship lower volumes in the second half of the year. (BR)
