What They Say
The M7 Group, part of Canal+, said that it has worked with Mediatek to ensure that its M7 channel mechanism FST (Fast Scan Tables), full compliance with the M7 CAM (Conditional Access Module) and HbbTV OpApp work correctly on the firm’s chips to enable SmartTVs, STBs and HDMI dongles to support the service.
The deployment will commence in June 2022 on smart TVs from TP Vision (Philips branded sets) based on 4K and 8K capable Smart TV platforms of MediaTek, followed by other major TV set manufacturers using MediaTek chipsets and the HbbTV standard 2.0.2.
M7 Group will subsequently roll out the solution in all European markets in which the company is operating TV platforms across its full range of brands (except Online.nl in the Netherlands).
M7 Group is a pay TV operator that claims more than three million subscribers in eight countries: Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. It has more than 450 channels from over 150 content partners.
What We Think
The move to full PayTV without a Set Top Box seems to have taken a lot of years, but the trend is bound to gather momentum from here, I think. (BR)
