Lucid Motors Embraces Samsung’s 255-Inch MicroLED Display for Collaborative Design

Lucid Motors is using the 255-inch MicroLED Wall display from Samsung to help its design team better scrutinize their creations. When it came to the design team at Lucid, display space was at premium meaning there was never enough. The companies apparently collaborated on the installation of the Wall and to include it in the design process. It’s definitely not every design studio that can afford to have this kind of display installed, but in this case, you can see why it would be effective.

Collaboration for designers is tricky basically because it is difficult to share your designs in a way that is consistent to everyone involved, especially if you try and do it online, and if you do it in person you end up with a projected display which doesn’t really doesn’t the precision. That’s the real world where everyone is fighting for equipment budgets to get the kind of displays and projection systems that they need.

In this case, money and product not being an issue, the designers are getting the best, most detailed version of their designs and they can collaborate and work through it at a level of detail that wouldn’t be possible even if they were actually working around a real car. They are right in there on every detail of their design. It makes total sense and it may come to pass that some day all design studios can have a 255-inch display for collaborative meetings. For now, its a concept that seems to be bearing out in practical tests.

Jiyeon Jenny Ha, exterior design manager at Lucid Motor says, “The Wall has revolutionized the way our design and engineering teams work together. With this technology, we can effortlessly visualize design data that incorporates engineering feedback and simulation results, allowing us to promptly assess the effects of any alteration on the overall design. In other words, development teams now operate more efficiently, and drivers can enjoy enhanced luxury aesthetics without compromising superior vehicle performance. It can be a tricky sweet spot to balance, but The Wall helps us pinpoint it seamlessly.”
