Lucid, the creators of the LucidCam stereoscopic camera, is partnering with camera company Red to develop a 180° stereoscopic camera for “8K” image and video capture. The device is reported to feature two connected Ultra HD cameras, a beam splitter and adjustable lens distances, and converts pictures and videos to Red’s holographic file format (4V) automatically during capture.
Created content will be viewable via VR and AR headsets, as well as Red’s forthcoming holographic smartphone, Red Hydrogen One and standard monitors. The companies have teased a fourth-quarter release for the camera, to be sold through Red and its reseller partners, but didn’t give any indication of pricing.
