Lightest Laptop’ Claimed by Gigabyte

The 15.6″ P35X v3 from Gigabyte is marketed as the lightest laptop in its size category. Weighing between 2.2kg and 2.3kg, depending on components, the unit is less than 21mm thick.

Dual heat pipes channel heat away from the sensitive components, aided by two fans for the CPU and GPU. Fan speed can be adjusted by the user.

Despite the laptop’s slimness, its internals are fully-featured: four internal drives are supported; up to two 512GB mSATA SSDs and two 2TB HDDs, in a RAID 0 structure. Alternatively, three SSDs can be used to increase speed further. A hot-swappable drive bay can hold either an optical disk drive or an additional HDD.

A Core i7 (2.4GHz/2.5GHz) processor runs Windows 7 or 8.1, while graphics are provided by the Intel HD graphics or an Nvidia Geforce GTX 980M GPU. Built-in RAM is 4GB or 8GB. Users can choose 1920 x 1080 or 2880 x 1620 display resolutions.

As well as two 1.5W speakers, the P35X v3 features mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0 (x2), USB 2.0 (x2) and RJ45 ports. It is on sale now for $2,400.
