LG Show New VR Headset at Game Developers Conference

LG recently showed off its forthcoming VR headset, believed to be named UltraGear, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

A month ago, we reported on patent documents that showed a LG VR headset with a unique design that connects and detaches at the front, in between the two displays. At the time, it wasn’t clear if the documents related to LG’s SteamVR headset, or a separate device. (Patent of LG VR Headset Shows Unique Design)

That conundrum was answered when LG brought its SteamVR headset to the conference, which featured its own different, yet still innovative design—a visor that can be slid forward and up over the head, allowing the user to see their surroundings without taking the device off completely, as well as the ability to adjust the visor’s sweet spot for spectacle wearers.

We now know the headset will feature twin OLED screens, with a resolution of 1440 x 1280 (540 PPI), a refresh rate of 90Hz and a viewing angle of 110°.

What we still don’t know is an official release date, or pricing information. We’ll make an announcement and soon as we get official word from LG.
