The Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) said that LG Electronics has joined the organisation which is developing the AV1 codec.
There is no need to be a member of the consortium to use the codec.
DVB said that AV1 was next on the list for evaluation for DVB-AVC (DVB adds VVC to its Video Coding Toolbox)
What We Think
The AV1 codec is being developed to produce an open source royalty-free codec for advanced TV. Qualcomm said recently that it was implementing AV1 support (Qualcomm is adding AV1 support) I suspect that LG joining the organisation might be to have some influence over the IP issues of the codec.
