LG Expands Diagnostic Medical Monitor Line With New 12-megapixel Multimodality Display

What They Say

Apologies, we missed a new diagnostic medical monitor from LG. The 31HN713D unit is a 31″ IPS unit with 4200 x 2800 resolution (12 megapixels) and up to 1080 cd/m² of output. The monitor is suitable for all modalities ( (Mammography, CR, DR, CT, MR, Ultrasound, etc.) as well as office applications. However, it is described as optimised for mammography and is intended to replace dual monitor set-ups. Features include a Pathology mode and a focus view mode. The unit is FDA 510(k)-certified and DICOM-compliant and meets parameters set by the American College of Radiology for image quality in digital mammography.

Contrast is 1,500:1 and the GtG response time is quoted at 14ms (with overdrive off) and 5ms if set on. The monitor has an integrated hardware calibration sensor and the unit has dual DisplayPort inputs. There is a USB hub with one upstream and three downstream connections. There are built-in wall and down-lighting LEDs to ease off display visual contrast and illuminate work areas.

What We Think

This monitor pushes LG further into the diagnostics market. The company is also developing X-Ray imagers and complete systems and wants to sell systems as well as displays, it has told us in the past.

This kind of monitor is very popular with radiographers. It has been hard to make dual monitors that genuinely match precisely in colour as well as luminance and it’s easier to use a single panel. Having a single monitor also allows viewing one image while using another part of the display for emailing or making notes. However, the monitors are expensive, which makes the market smaller than it might be. (BR)
