Display Daily Comment
Phew… that was a really good overview of LG Display’s range and technology power. The company has been top panel supplier for some time now and is clearly trying to press home its advantage in large OLEDs. I have been saying for ten years that “my heart is in OLED, although my head is with LCD”. I loved the HDR OLED demonstration and it’s the sort of panel I might buy – after all, I understand the effects of ambient light and care about really good video quality. However, most TVs are sold in brightly-lit showrooms, where the deep black levels of OLEDs may not be as good as in the home. In the bright lights, the higher peak white of LCDs may well stand out. Given that the low volumes of large OLEDs compared to TVs will mean that it will be hard to keep driving prices down, there could challenging times ahead for the technology in large sizes. For more comments about small OLEDs, see my article about Samsung Display in this issue. (BR)
